After talking to Peter for hints on the best way to approach bass guitar recording, the process proceeds more smoothly: the bass part for Black Coffee Special is down. I have to be even more thorough with the preparation of future pieces, though.
Adding a drum part, as I thought, is out of the question. Apart from the awkwardness of doing it with a keyboard (I’ll get used to it, I guess), there are bits that would require extensive realigning of the other instruments to fit a less flowing rhythmic pattern. As said in countless conversations and read in every book on the subject, recording the drums afterwards is a huge No.
For Black Coffee Special, I’ll probably record a tambourine along with the final vocals.
After the recording, I spent some time composing somethign new.
